La Porte provides weekly residential trash and recycling collection through a contracted waste hauler. Residents must follow specific placement and timing rules for curbside pickup. Bins must be at the curb by the scheduled collection time and retrieved the same day.
The City of La Porte provides residential solid waste and recycling collection through a contracted waste hauler. Trash is collected weekly on a designated day based on the resident's location. Recycling is also collected weekly or bi-weekly depending on the current service schedule. Residents should place bins at the curb with lids closed by 7:00 AM on collection day or the evening before. Bins must be placed at least 3 feet apart and away from mailboxes, fire hydrants, parked cars, and other obstructions. Bags of trash placed outside the bin or loose items beside the container may not be collected. Bins should be retrieved from the curb by the end of collection day. Residents who miss a pickup should contact the waste hauler or the city to arrange a makeup collection. Household hazardous waste such as paint, chemicals, batteries, and electronics should not be placed in regular trash bins. The city periodically hosts hazardous waste collection events. Contact the Public Works Department or Code Enforcement at (281) 471-5020 for collection schedule information.
Placing prohibited items in trash or recycling bins may result in the hauler refusing collection. Bins left at the curb beyond collection day are subject to code enforcement action. Illegal dumping carries fines up to $2,000 per offense.
