Smyrna, TN Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

The Town of Smyrna regulates when private garbage trucks can run through its neighborhoods in the anti-noise section of the Municipal Code, § 11-401. Subsection (1)(m), titled Garbage pick-up, prohibits garbage pick-up by commercial garbage and waste businesses between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday the quiet window is longer, running from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. The rule is aimed at hauling companies, not at residents setting out their own bins.

There is a built-in exemption. The subsection does not apply to parcels that are zoned for commercial or industrial use, so a retail center or industrial site can be serviced by its hauler during the restricted hours, while a home, apartment community, or other residentially zoned parcel cannot. Because the test is the zoning of the parcel, the Town's separate Zoning Ordinance decides which side of the line a property falls on.

This provision sits in the list of enumerated noises in § 11-401(1), which the code says is not exclusive. The neighboring items include building operations in residential areas, which are limited to 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, and loading and unloading noise from vehicles under paragraph (j).

The rest of the collection rules are in Title 17. Section 17-104 requires containers to be set adjacent to and back of the curb at the times scheduled for collection, and to be removed to within or behind the premises as soon as practicable after they are emptied. Section 17-108 provides free chipper service to residential citizens within the corporate limits, with brush piles no larger than ten feet by ten feet and set out within four feet of the edge of the road. Section 17-107 prohibits disposing of refuse anywhere other than the site or sites designated by the Town Council. The code itself does not print the weekly collection days.
