Fairfield Town Code § 84-9 establishes "a program for the mandatory separation of certain recyclable materials from municipal solid waste in the Town of Fairfield and the collection of segregated recyclables at the Town's curbside and/or at other specified locations," with collection made periodically under the supervision of the Solid Waste and Recycling Commission. Section 84-10 gives the Commission responsibility for overseeing implementation, and § 84-11 puts a Director of Solid Waste and Recycling, appointed by the Board of Selectmen and reporting to the First Selectman, in charge of administering the program, coordinating with private trash haulers and recycling centers, and providing recycling education to residents and school children.
