Kirkland provides weekly curbside recycling through Waste Management as part of mandatory service under KMC 16.04. Accepted: paper, cardboard, plastic bottles/tubs, metal cans, glass. No plastic bags.
All residential properties in Kirkland receive weekly curbside recycling as part of the mandatory Waste Management service package under KMC Chapter 16.04. Accepted materials include clean paper (newspaper, mixed paper, cardboard), plastic bottles and tubs (narrow neck containers and wide mouth tubs), aluminum and steel cans, and glass bottles and jars. Items must be empty, rinsed, and loose in the cart. Do not bag recyclables in plastic bags. Plastic bags, plastic wrap, and film plastics are not accepted curbside but may be recycled at grocery store drop-off locations. Styrofoam, Tetra Paks, shredded paper, and food-soiled containers are not accepted. Cardboard should be flattened and cut to fit inside the cart. Contamination of the recycling stream with non-recyclables or excessive food residue may result in the load being treated as garbage and potential service fees. Washington State has expanded producer responsibility requirements for packaging under RCW 70A.530.
Persistent recycling contamination may result in removal of recycling service and conversion to garbage-only billing. Illegal dumping of non-accepted materials in recycling carts is a KMC 16.04 violation.
