Kirkland residents must place carts curbside by 6 AM on collection day with 3 feet of clearance and handles facing the house. Carts must be removed within 24 hours after pickup.
Under Kirkland Municipal Code and Waste Management service rules, residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste carts must be placed at the curb or designated collection point by 6:00 AM on the scheduled collection day. Carts should be positioned with the handles facing the house or building and arrows pointing toward the street so the automated collection arm can properly grip and empty the container. Maintain a minimum clearance of approximately 3 feet between carts and any obstructions such as mailboxes, parked vehicles, trees, fences, and utility poles. Carts must be removed from the curb and returned to a storage location within 24 hours of collection. Storing carts visibly in front-yard areas between pickup days is generally discouraged and may be addressed through Kirkland Municipal Code property maintenance provisions in Chapter 21.41 if carts are stored in a manner constituting blight or nuisance. Do not overfill carts or place extra bags outside the cart without appropriate stickers.
Missed pickup from improper placement is the residents responsibility. Persistent storage of carts in public view may result in property maintenance citations. Overfilled carts may be refused service.
