Weekly curbside recycling is included in Rentons solid waste utility. Accepted items include paper, cardboard, glass, metal cans, and plastic bottles. Contamination can result in rejection.
Renton provides weekly curbside recycling service through Republic Services as part of the mandatory solid waste utility at no additional cost beyond the garbage bill. Acceptable recyclables include mixed paper, cardboard flattened and cut to fit, glass bottles and jars, metal food and beverage cans, aluminum foil, and plastic bottles and tubs numbered 1, 2, and 5. Items must be empty, clean, and dry before placement in the recycling cart. Not accepted are plastic bags, plastic film, styrofoam, food waste, yard waste, needles, batteries, electronics, textiles, diapers, or household hazardous waste. Plastic bags can be returned to grocery store drop-off bins. Yard waste has a separate weekly cart service included in the utility. Contaminated recycling loads may be rejected and tagged with a violation notice. Multi-family properties must also provide recycling per WA State minimum service levels. Businesses are required to recycle paper, cardboard, and other designated materials under RMC and state requirements, though commercial service is arranged separately.
