Lewisville offers single-stream curbside recycling through Community Waste Disposal as part of standard residential solid waste service. A 96-gallon recycling cart is provided to each residential account. Collection occurs every other week on the same day as trash pickup. Recycling is voluntary; the city does not mandate participation or impose penalties for not recycling. Accepted materials include mixed paper, cardboard (flattened), plastic bottles and containers numbered 1 through 7, aluminum cans, steel/tin cans, and glass bottles and jars. Materials that contaminate the recycling stream and should not be placed in the cart include plastic bags, Styrofoam, food-soiled paper, electronics, batteries, and hazardous materials. Contaminated loads may be tagged and left uncollected. The city promotes recycling through its Environmental Services education programs and seasonal collection events. Multi-family apartment complexes may have separate recycling arrangements through their property management. Texas does not have a statewide mandatory recycling law for residential properties. Contact Solid Waste Services at (972) 219-3458 for recycling questions and schedule information.
There are no penalties for not participating in curbside recycling. However, placing non-accepted materials in the recycling cart may result in the load being tagged as contaminated and left uncollected. Persistent contamination may lead to the recycling cart being removed from the address. Improper disposal of electronics and hazardous materials in any waste stream may violate state environmental regulations.
