Walton County, GA Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

' A participating customer's licensee must collect, at least once a week, glass bottles and jars, newspaper, PET and HDPE plastic, aluminum cans and bi-metal or steel cans, following a list of guidelines the county provides. The county reserves the right to add or drop recovered material categories and to change how yard trimmings are collected and disposed of as new options develop. Licensees must supply the recycling containers themselves, may not dump collected recyclables in a landfill, and cannot charge a customer anything above the normal curbside trash fee for the weekly recycling pickup; every licensee must agree to participate fully in the program to hold a license at all.

Section 46-39(4) protects materials once they are set out: recovered items placed in a designated container for collection become county property, and during the 24 hours before the scheduled pickup, no one except the licensee's own employee or agent may remove them, a rule aimed at scavengers who pull cans and bottles before the truck arrives. Section 46-40(c) extends the same weekly recycling access to elderly and disabled residents who qualify for modified collection under the ordinance.
