Violating the recycling storage, collection or prohibited-practices provisions of Article H is a municipal infraction under Iowa City Code 1-4-2(B)(2): a $100 civil penalty for a first offense, $250 for a second, and $500 for a third or subsequent offense, with each day a violation continues counted as a separate offense. If the violation is also classified as an environmental infraction, the penalty rises to $1,000 per offense. The City may additionally withhold solid waste service or terminate the account under 16-3H-4.
