Pompano Beach, FL Trash & Recycling: Recycling Rules (2026)

20 of the Pompano Beach Code of Ordinances sets the residential recycling program. Newspaper must be fresh, segregated from other waste, and bundled with string or twine, in a paper grocery bag, or placed loose in the recycling bin; it cannot be taped or left in delivery plastic sleeves. Bound paper (magazines and telephone books), corrugated cardboard cut down to fit, aluminum beverage cans, steel and bi-metal cans, and glass containers must each be rinsed clean of organic material and free-flowing liquids before being set out.

Plastic containers are limited to three resin types: PETE #1, HDPE #2, and PVC #3, each of which must carry the resin imprint on the container bottom to qualify; unmarked containers, containers with openings larger than their base, and containers of five gallons or more are excluded. 20(B), all of these materials should be commingled by residential customers into the recycling container the city supplies and placed for collection by the authorized solid waste contractor. 11(A)(2) sets the pickup schedule: program recyclables go out in the recycling roll cart for collection at the curb once per week, separate from the twice-weekly garbage pickup and the weekly bulk trash run.

11(C)(3). 7046 and must register annually with the City of Pompano Beach Solid Waste Department, submitting an original and one copy of the required application. Registration fees run $200 for an initial application or re-application, $200 for annual renewal, and $100 to transfer a registration, and a hauler must also carry liability insurance approved by the city's Risk Management Division.
