Sec. 5 inch in diameter, distinct from garbage and other refuse. Sec. 9-404(d) sets the container rule: acceptable containers for yard waste are city roll-out yard waste carts or compostable kraft paper bags designed for yard waste, and it states plainly that plastic bags and other refuse cans are strictly prohibited, with the 65-pound weight limit from Sec. 9-405 applying to kraft bags as well. Sec. 9-406 adds the bundling standard for larger material: yard, shrub, or tree trimmings that are not bundled or placed in an approved container will not be collected, and any bundle must be tied securely, no more than 18 inches in diameter, no more than five feet long, and no more than 65 pounds.

Material in kraft bags or roll-out yard waste carts cannot extend more than 12 inches above the top of the container or be packed so tightly that it has to be pulled out by hand. Grass and leaves are collected on the same day each week as regular residential trash during the yard waste season set by the director of public works, separately from bundled trimmings. Owners and occupants must clear roll-out carts from the street or alley within 24 hours of pickup, and the Municipal Services and Operations Department can confiscate a cart left out in violation of Sec. 9-407.
