Miami collects yard trash twice monthly through the bulky waste program. Residents may set out tree limbs, palm fronds, and bagged leaves curbside on scheduled pickup weeks. Hurricane-season trimming is encouraged. Volume is capped at six cubic yards per pickup.
The City of Miami Department of Solid Waste collects yard waste and bulky items together on a twice-monthly schedule assigned by route. Acceptable yard trash includes tree branches, palm fronds, hedge trimmings, grass clippings, and bagged leaves. Branches must be cut to no longer than four feet and no thicker than four inches in diameter; bundles tied with natural twine speed up collection. Total volume may not exceed six cubic yards (about a 12 Γ 4 Γ 4 foot pile) per scheduled pickup. Bags of leaves or grass may weigh no more than 50 pounds. Material must be placed at the curb no earlier than the day before pickup, away from storm drains, fire hydrants, and parked cars. During hurricane season (June 1 β November 30), the city encourages residents to trim trees in advance and avoid setting out loose debris that could become projectiles. Christmas trees are collected curbside in early January as part of regular yard trash service. The program is authorized under Miami City Code Chapter 22.
Setouts placed too early, exceeding volume limits, or containing prohibited items (construction debris, hazardous waste) may be tagged and result in fines from $100 to $500 under Miami Code Β§22-46. Illegal dumping carries fines up to $1,000.
