Homestead, FL Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

City Code Sec. 5-1 defines yard and garden waste as grass, leaves, tree or shrubbery cuttings, including limbs and logs under four inches in diameter and no more than five feet long, and stumps under fifteen inches in diameter or fifty pounds, but excludes debris from unimproved lots, soil, and sod; it also flatly bars putting yard waste in a garbage container. Sec. 5-6 sets the collection mechanics: each residence gets semi-monthly curbside collection of not more than 10 cubic yards of bulky trash, including yard and garden waste, though homeowners' associations in new residential developments must contract with a private franchisee for this service instead of using the city.

Materials cannot be set out earlier than the day before the scheduled pickup, and the pile can't exceed 10 cubic yards. Yard and garden waste must be kept separated from other allowable bulky items like white goods and noncombustible refuse so the city can collect it separately for mulching, and it cannot be placed against or within five feet of any wall, fence, guy wire, vehicle, or other obstruction that would impede collection. Commercial establishments generally don't get bulky pickups except for yard and garden waste; anything else must go through their regular containers or a licensed landfill.

Sec. 5-8) separately caps construction and demolition debris pickup at one cubic yard per residential unit for minor home improvements. Landscape contractors producing over 10 cubic yards of debris must remove it themselves under Sec. 5-5(g), unless the work is done directly by the property owner or tenant.
