Hialeah, FL Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Sec. 78-1 defines yard waste as vegetative matter resulting from yard and landscaping maintenance, including but not limited to shrub and tree trimmings, grass clippings, palm fronds and branches, but excludes land clearing debris. The operative collection rule, Sec. 78-71, folds that vegetative material into a once-a-month, alternating-month bulk yard trash pickup separate from ordinary bulk trash, capped at eight cubic yards per residence per collection day. Small material, branches, dried leaves and grass clippings, can go out bundled or bagged in heavyweight weatherproof plastic bags of no more than 50 pounds each, but the weight of those bags still counts against the eight-cubic-yard limit; there's no separate allowance for bagged material.

Mixing yard trash with regular bulk trash or household garbage is itself a violation, and a commingled pile simply won't be collected. the morning after the scheduled collection day. Setting out more than the eight-cubic-yard limit isn't collected as part of the regular route; it has to be arranged and paid for as a special service under Sec. 78-72, and residents can't stage the excess at the curb before making those arrangements. The director of solid waste, per Sec. 78-2, sets the actual monthly collection schedule and can adjust container and set-out rules as needed, subject to appeal to the mayor.
