Ridgefield, CT Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Chapter 305 treats yard waste as its own category, defined at § 305-4 as grass clippings, leaves, tree trimmings, weeds, garden plants, shrubs, branches, limbs, brush and similar material grown on and coming from a Ridgefield property. Section 305-7(C) sets the bundling standard for woody debris: tree limbs under four inches in diameter and brush have to be securely tied into bundles no larger than 36 inches long and 18 inches in diameter, a size meant to keep bundles manageable for collection crews and vehicles.

Section 305-7(D) covers everything else, requiring yard waste to sit in containers built and maintained so waste cannot blow or spill onto the served premises, an adjacent property or an adjacent public right-of-way, and it puts a hard ceiling on weight: no individual container and its contents may exceed 75 pounds. Because yard waste is a subset of solid waste, the general occupant duties in § 305-7(A), covered containers kept in good repair and a clean storage area, apply to it too, and the container itself has to be stored on the residential premises under § 305-7(B).

Yard waste generated within Ridgefield also qualifies as a special waste under § 305-4's special wastes definition, which folds in green or dead brush alongside items such as scrap metal, tires and furniture for handling purposes at the Town solid waste facility.
