Sugar Land, TX Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

City Code § 3-148 defines green waste as yard trimmings, brush, clean wood, tree limbs, leaves, grass clippings, shrubbery, sawdust and similar landscape material headed for composting, capping limbs at four feet long and four inches thick and any stack, bag, bundle or container at 40 pounds. Section 3-156(a)(9) lets customers set out limbs up to four feet long and four inches in diameter, or two feet long if the diameter runs four to six inches. Customers may place up to ten cubic yards of green waste on their normal collection day; anything beyond ten cubic yards still goes out, but the city collects it within five business days of the scheduled day instead of same-day, per (a)(10)-(11).

Soft green waste, meaning grass clippings, leaves and small trimmings, must go into a clear translucent bag or a personal container rather than loose piles, under (a)(12). All green waste, along with bulky waste and bulk cardboard, must sit no farther than four feet from the curb, per (a)(15), and stay clear of mailboxes, parked cars and low utility lines under the general placement rule at (a)(6). 1-9 applies: violations governing sanitation other than vegetation and litter can draw fines up to $2,000, but vegetation and litter violations, which cover yard waste set-out, fall into the $500 default tier, with each day of noncompliance a separate offense.
