Wyoming requires beekeepers to register colonies with the State Department of Agriculture under the apiary statutes. The state inspects for diseases and pests, and registration requirements apply uniformly statewide.
Wyoming Statutes Title 11, Chapter 7 establishes the state apiary program administered by the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. Beekeepers must register apiaries, and the Department may inspect colonies for American foulbrood, Varroa mites, and other regulated pests. The law authorizes quarantine, treatment, or destruction orders for infected hives and regulates the importation of bees and used equipment to prevent disease spread. While municipalities may regulate hive placement, setbacks, and nuisance issues through zoning, registration and disease control are state functions that cities cannot waive. State certification supports interstate movement of Wyoming bees.
Failure to register, refusal of inspection, or violating quarantine orders are misdemeanors under Title 11 with fines and possible destruction of non-compliant colonies at the keeper's expense.
