Under LVMC 7.16.010, a dog can be declared dangerous after two menacing or biting incidents within 18 months, or vicious after killing/seriously injuring a person or animal, or after repeating dangerous behavior post-declaration. LVMC 7.16.020 makes it unlawful to knowingly own or control a declared dangerous or vicious dog, or let one run at large, without a permit. To keep a dangerous dog, LVMC 7.16.030 requires a property inspection within 14 days, a secure enclosure, muzzle and leash off-property, posted warning signs, sterilization, microchipping, and $50,000 in liability insurance. Vicious dogs face a hearing and possible euthanasia under LVMC 7.16.050.
