ECMC Section 17.205.065 permits chicken keeping in all single-family residential zones and RM-6000. Maximum of 10 chickens or 1 per 100 sq ft of unpaved rear yard, whichever is less. Roosters are prohibited. Chickens must be in fully enclosed runs providing at least 10 sq ft per bird. Dead chickens must be removed or buried at 3-foot depth within 24 hours. Horses are permitted in O-S, RS-40, RS-20, and PRD-Low-Low zones on 20,000+ sq ft lots, limited to 1 per 10,000 sq ft. Rabbits, geese, and ducks (up to 6 adults) are permitted in O-S, RS-40, and RS-20 zones. Non-pet animals must be 50+ feet from human habitation.
Exceeding chicken limits or keeping roosters is a code violation. Improper disposal of dead chickens is a public nuisance. Odor and noise nuisances subject to enforcement.
