South Fulton's animal code (Sec. 18-1004) limits chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, pigeons and similar fowl to 75 per premises outside agricultural zones, requires a 100-foot setback from occupied buildings, and at least 4 square feet of space per bird. Enclosures must be sanitary.
South Fulton Code of Ordinances Title 18, Sec. 18-1004 ('Unlawful housing of domestic animals and livestock'), sets the standards for keeping fowl. Subsection (a)(1) requires any housing or enclosure to be well-drained, free of accumulated excrement and objectionable odors, and otherwise clean and sanitary, with excrement disposed of in an approved manner. Subsection (a)(2) requires 'chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, pigeons, or similar fowl' to be kept at least 100 feet from any occupied building other than the owner's dwelling. Subsection (a)(3) requires a minimum of 4 square feet of floor or ground area per bird (except in agriculturally zoned areas). Subsection (a)(4) caps the maximum number of fowl at 75 on any single premises outside agricultural zones. These numeric limits, setbacks, and space requirements do not apply in areas zoned for agriculture, and exceptions exist for licensed veterinary hospitals, commercial kennels, grooming parlors, and public/commercial horse facilities. Title 18 itself does not state a separate hen-only count, a rooster ban, or a coop permit beyond these housing standards. Zoning districts may impose additional limits on where fowl can be kept; residents should confirm requirements with the South Fulton Planning & Zoning Department for their specific district. Adopted by Ord. No. 2019-007.
Keeping fowl in violation of the housing, setback, or number limits is unlawful under Sec. 18-1004. Penalties are set by the City Charter and applicable law (Sec. 18-1002). Animals kept under unsanitary conditions also violate Sec. 18-1005.
