Camarillo Municipal Code Section 7.20.010 requires all dogs on public streets, alleys, parks, and public places to be on a leash no longer than 6 feet, held by a capable person. Dogs may not be on private property without the owner's permission. Off-leash is only allowed in designated dog parks.
Section 7.20.010 (Ord. No. 1193, adopted June 22, 2022) requires that no person may allow any dog to be on any public street, alley, lane, park, or public place unless the dog is securely fastened on a leash no longer than 6 feet and the leash is held continuously in the hands of a responsible person capable of controlling the dog. Dogs may alternatively be securely confined in a vehicle. No person may allow a dog on private property without permission of the property owner or occupant. Parks designated as dog parks by the proper government agency are exempt from the leash requirement. Section 7.20.020 prohibits animals at large and provides for impoundment of stray animals. Section 7.04.010 requires all dogs over 4 months old to have a current license tag attached to a collar or harness worn at all times. Dog owners must also comply with the waste removal requirements of Section 7.32.010.
Violations of the leash law are enforceable by Camarillo Animal Services at (805) 388-4341 and the Camarillo Police. Unleashed dogs may be impounded under Section 7.20.030. Owners must pay impound fees and obtain a license to reclaim. Repeat offenses may result in enhanced penalties.
