The City of Deer Park requires all dogs to be kept under restraint and not allowed to run at large on public property or the property of others. When off the owner's property, dogs must be on a leash held by a person capable of controlling the animal, or confined within a vehicle or secure carrier. Dogs on the owner's property must be confined within a fenced yard, kennel, or other enclosure that prevents escape, or on a tether that does not allow the dog to leave the property. Dogs found running at large may be impounded by Deer Park Animal Control. Owners of impounded dogs must pay boarding fees, and the dog must have current rabies vaccination and city registration before release. Dangerous dog provisions apply to dogs that have bitten or attacked persons or other animals, with additional restraint and insurance requirements. The city contracts with Harris County for animal control services. Report loose dogs to Deer Park Animal Control or the non-emergency police line at (281) 479-2525.
Dogs running at large result in citations with fines. Impounded dogs incur boarding fees. Second and subsequent offenses carry increased fines. Owners of dangerous dogs face enhanced penalties including potential criminal charges for attacks.
