LEMC Chapter 6.08 (Livestock) regulates large animals. Under LEMC 6.08.040(A), it is unlawful to keep horses, cows, sheep, or goats within 150 feet of any residence or building used for human habitation; a ranch-type subdivision developer may ask the Planning Commission and City Council to waive the horse setback. LEMC 6.08.020 bars raising cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, pigeons, geese, ducks, or turkeys commercially in the restricted district described in LEMC 6.08.010. LEMC 6.08.040(B) bars any animal or fowl habitually making loud noises amounting to a public nuisance. Livestock running at large is handled under LEMC Chapter 6.12, letting the Animal Control Officer impound cows, horses, mules, burros, sheep, goats, and swine and, if unredeemed, sell them.
Keeping horses, cows, sheep, or goats within 150 feet of a dwelling, or raising listed animals commercially in the restricted district, violates LEMC 6.08 and is an abatable public nuisance. Livestock at large may be impounded under LEMC 6.12.040.
