Puyallup, WA Animal Ordinances: Microchipping (2026)

The city's microchip requirements are scattered across three provisions rather than gathered in one chapter. 020(9)(a) states that adoption fees include an animal license, spaying/neutering, and a microchip, so a new owner receives an already-chipped pet. 00 refundable deposit to proof of both alteration and microchipping from a licensed veterinarian; the deposit is waived under subsection (3) if a vet states in writing that the microchip installation, like spay/neuter, would be harmful to the animal. 030(2) requires any dog declared potentially dangerous or dangerous to be tattooed or microchipped for identification, in a form approved by the animal control authority, with that identification information kept on file. Outside adoption, repeat impoundment, and a dangerous-dog declaration, Puyallup's code does not require an ordinary pet owner to microchip their animal.
