Louisburg, KS Building Safety: Building Permits (2026)

The City of Louisburg adopted the 2018 International Building Code as its Building Code by § 4-101 (Ord. 865; Ord. 1122; Ord. 1138), incorporating the Code's permit-issuance and fee-collection provisions wholesale, with local amendments layered on in § 4-102. Section 105.2, as amended, exempts a short list of minor work from needing a permit at all, including small retaining walls, small detached accessory sheds, and small above-ground prefab pools, but the section is explicit that any exemption does not authorize work done in violation of the Building Code or other City ordinances.

Everything else, from new single-family homes to commercial buildouts, needs a permit application under § 105.3, filed on a City form describing the work, the property, and its valuation, and accompanied by construction documents prepared by a Kansas-registered design professional under § 107.1. Permit fees run on the Table 1-A valuation schedule in § 4-103, from $23.50 for a $501 job up to $5,608.75 plus $3.65 per additional $1,000 on jobs over $1 million, with a $50-per-hour, two-hour-minimum charge for inspections outside normal business hours.

Notably, § 4-103(b) suspends that fee schedule for new single-family residential dwellings for all of calendar year 2026, though the projects still must meet every building code and zoning review requirement, and a duly issued permit stays valid for one year from issuance.
