Chapter 128, Building Codes - Adopted, is short but does the work: § 128.01 adopts "the Building Code" as the governing regulation for the construction of all new buildings and structures in the City, and for all alterations, additions and repairs to any new or existing building or structure in Weston, which reaches everything from a new home to a kitchen remodel or a roof repair. § 128.02 keeps fee-setting out of the code text: permit and related fees are established and amended by resolution of the City Commission, so the current fee schedule lives in a separate Commission resolution rather than in Chapter 128, and changes without a code amendment.

Chapter 128 sits alongside two related chapters read together with it: Chapter 129, Minimum Housing, which polices ongoing occupancy standards once a structure exists, and Chapter 130, Unsafe Structures, enforced by the Building Official, which handles structures that become unsafe through wear, neglect or vacancy. Because Chapter 128 does not write its own penalty clause for unpermitted work, enforcement of a missing or incomplete permit falls back on the City's citywide general penalty provision, § 2.99, which treats each day of a continuing violation as a separate offense.
