Chapter 84, Master Electricians, is administered by a five-member Examining Board of Electricians, each a licensed master electrician with at least 10 years' trade experience, appointed by the Town Board (§ 84-1). Section 84-5A bars anyone from professionally installing or wiring electrical apparatus in the Town until they obtain a master electrician's license, which requires a written and practical exam under § 84-6, proof of prior employment, two photographs, and public liability insurance of at least $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident and $50,000 for property damage, filed with the Department of Buildings (§ 84-7).

Fees under § 84-8 run $50 for the non-refundable application and exam, $150 when the license issues, $30 for electricians reciprocating from another New York municipality, and $45 a year to renew. A license expires two years after issuance and can be renewed without another exam for three more years for $90 if filed on time (§ 84-9). Homeowners doing electrical work in their own residence can get temporary permission by filing an affidavit with the Commissioner of Buildings and passing an oral exam through an approved inspection agency, without holding a license themselves (§ 84-10).

Section 84-11 adopts 'the most current issue of the National Electric Code' as the accepted trade standard, and § 84-12 bars using any wiring or fixture until a certified inspection agency issues a final compliance certificate. 1, lets a local electric utility reenergize storm-damaged premises before that certificate issues if a licensed electrician certifies the work safe.
