Hutto, TX Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 6.02.151 adopts NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code, 2017 edition, or the most current edition and its latest revisions, effective except where it conflicts with the rest of the Hutto Code or with Texas Local Government Code section 214.214, the state statute governing building-code adoption by cities. Section 6.02.152 layers the International Code Council's Electrical Code Administrative Provisions, 2009 edition, on top of the NEC, inserting City of Hutto, Texas as the local jurisdiction at Section 101.1 and directing at Section 404.2 that permits and fees follow the current city fee schedule maintained by Development Services.

Because the administrative provisions were adopted by Ordinance O-12-02-16-V2 in 2012, ahead of the 2019 building-code overhaul, an electrician pulling a Hutto permit works from two layered documents: the substantive 2017 NEC wiring rules and the older administrative permit-and-fee mechanics, both enforced by the same building official who administers the rest of chapter 6.02. Appeals from a permit denial or an inspector's interpretation of either document go to the Building and Standards Commission under the parallel appeals language written into every division of article 6.02, and that commission's decision is final. An electrical contractor must hold a current permit before energizing new circuits, service changes, or panel replacements inside the city limits.
