06 of the Redding Municipal Code adopts the California Electrical Code, 2022 Edition, as the electrical code governing the city, incorporating it by reference as though set forth at length in the code itself. A copy of the adopted code is kept on file and open for public inspection at the City of Redding permit center, so anyone pulling a permit can review the exact standards an inspector will apply. Because the Electrical Code is adopted wholesale rather than rewritten locally, contractors and homeowners are held to the same wiring, grounding, service-panel, and load-calculation requirements found in the statewide code, with no separate city-specific technical amendments carved out in this chapter (unlike the Plumbing and Mechanical Code chapters next to it, which do delete certain fee sections).

Any new electrical service, panel upgrade, rewiring job, or fixture installation that falls under the adopted code's permit triggers requires a permit issued through the city's permit center before work begins. 12 apply to violations of Title 16 as with any other code requirement: doing electrical work without the required permit or in violation of the adopted Electrical Code is a misdemeanor unless state law or the city attorney reduces it to an infraction. 020 separately authorizes the city to disconnect an electric meter and cut service to a structure whenever the fire marshal or building official determines the structure is a serious fire hazard, a public health hazard, or otherwise dangerous for human occupancy, which frequently follows from unpermitted or substandard electrical work discovered during an inspection.
