" The mandate is not limited to new construction: existing buildings other than one-, two- or three-family dwellings that are "newly permitted" for work must also be sprinklered per NFPA 13, subject to the currently adopted International Existing Building Code, with two additional triggers: any building "of combustible construction type greater than 1500 of square footage" must be sprinklered, and any building "using or containing high hazard materials exceeding the quantities defined in section 307" of the current IBC must be sprinklered as well.
