Ankeny, IA Building Safety: Green Building Code (2026)

Ankeny Code of Ordinances Section 175.51 deletes the IBC's stock Chapter 13, Energy Efficiency, and inserts a substitute stating that the International Energy Conservation Code, as currently adopted and amended by the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing, governs the design and construction of buildings for energy efficiency, with administration handled the same way as the rest of the Ankeny Building Code under the name Ankeny Energy Code. Rather than freezing a specific IECC edition into the city code, Ankeny ties its energy standard to whatever the state agency currently has in effect, so the applicable requirements update automatically with state rulemaking instead of needing a fresh City ordinance.

Section 175.08 makes the identical substitution in the chapter's referenced-codes section, IBC Section 101.4.6, so both the general referenced-codes provision and the substantive Chapter 13 route to the same state-adopted standard. That is a different approach than the rest of Section 101.4, where Section 175.07 simply strikes International and inserts Ankeny for the gas, mechanical, plumbing, property maintenance and fire codes, each becoming its own named local code; energy efficiency instead defers entirely to the state's current IECC adoption rather than becoming a separately amended Ankeny edition.
