Alameda County, CA Building Safety: Green Building Code (2026)

The county adopts the 2025 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen, CA Title 24, Part 11) by reference for unincorporated territory, alongside the 2025 CBC, CRC, Energy, WUI, Existing Building and Historical Building Codes. The county then modifies CALGreen with its own additions and deletions, for example, Section 15.08.390 amends the CALGreen Chapter 2 definitions of Bioretention, Enforcing Agency, Infiltration and Low Impact Development to route enforcement through the Building Inspection Division and, for certain clean-water sections, the Development Engineering Section. This applies only in unincorporated communities like Castro Valley and San Lorenzo, Oakland, Berkeley, Fremont, Hayward, San Leandro, Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, the City of Alameda, Union City, Newark, Emeryville, Albany and Piedmont each enforce their own green building code.
