Tustin, CA Building Safety: Green Building Code (2026)

Sec. 8100 lists the full set of construction codes Tustin adopts by reference as the City of Tustin Building Codes and Construction Regulations, and the 2025 California Green Building Standards Code, Title 24, Part 11, is on that list alongside the California Building, Residential, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy, Fire and Existing Building Codes. The section frames its purpose broadly, covering the safe erection, construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, improvement, removal, conversion, demolition, occupancy, equipment use, height and area of buildings and structures citywide, subject to the local amendments set out in the same chapter.

Those local amendments, printed in Sec. 8101, touch administrative provisions like permit fees, grading permits and work exempt from permit; none of them target the Green Building Standards Code specifically. That is a change from Tustin's older code structure: a separate Chapter 1B, titled Green Building Standards Code, once carried the City's own green building amendments, but the City Council repealed Chapter 1B by Ordinance No. 1435 on December 3, 2013, along with the old Chapter 1A Residential Code, leaving the current Chapter 1, most recently readopted by Ordinance No.

1569 on November 18, 2025, as the sole vehicle for green building regulation in the City. One copy of the adopted codes, including the Green Building Standards Code, is kept on file with the Building Official in the Community Development Department's Building Division, per Health and Safety Code Section 18942(d)(1), and is available for public inspection during regular business hours.
