Flint, MI Business Licensing & Operations: Tattoo & Body Modification (2026)

Flint's zoning code lists "Tattoo establishments" as a Group B special regulated use alongside liquor stores and pawnshops (§ 50-161(b)(2)). An application must go to the Planning and Zoning Office for Planning Commission approval before the use commences (§ 50-162), and approval is denied if the site sits within 300 feet of a residentially zoned district, mobile home park, K-12 school, dedicated park or church, or within 2,000 feet of four or more other Group B/C uses (§§ 50-163(b), 50-164(b)). Like Group A uses, Group B establishments must occupy a single freestanding building with a Planning Commission-approved exterior color and unobstructed public entrance during business hours (§ 50-165), and are limited to D-5, D-6, E and F zoning districts (§ 50-169(a)(2)).
