New subdivisions inside a City-Designated Water Reuse Area must use EBMUD recycled water for common-area irrigation and install a separate plumbing system for it, under Municipal Code Section 30-57.5. The City Engineer can exempt a project if recycled water use is technically infeasible or not economically justified.
