Along Georgetown County's ocean-facing coastal high hazard areas (VE-Zones), the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance requires new construction to sit landward of the mean high tide line and be elevated at least one foot above the base flood elevation on pilings or columns anchored below the zone of potential scour, the county's core defense against storm-surge and wave-driven hurricane damage.
