Jackson County itself has no tree-removal ordinance for private property because zoning and land-use permitting in Michigan sit with townships and cities, not counties. On land the county's own Parks and Recreation Commission administers, cutting, uprooting, girdling or otherwise damaging any tree, shrub, plant or mushroom is prohibited outright unless the Director grants written permission first.
