Solicitor Permits

Anyone doing commercial door-to-door solicitation in Roanoke County must first get a permit from the commissioner of the revenue under Roanoke County Code § 19-3, providing their name, address, ID and employer. Section 19-4 also bars all commercial or charitable solicitation, permitted or not, before 9:00 a.m. or after 9:00 p.m. countywide, outside the Roanoke and Salem city limits.

No-Knock Registry

Posting a prominently displayed 'NO SOLICITORS' notice on your Roanoke County property makes it unlawful for anyone to solicit there under Roanoke County Code § 19-6. Section 19-7 separately requires any solicitor to leave the moment the owner or occupant asks, posted sign or not, and a violation of either rule is a class 4 misdemeanor under § 19-2.
