Outdoor Burning
Unincorporated Sumter County bans open burning on or within 200 feet of any residential property except under the narrow conditions in County Code Section 16-72. A permitted fire must sit at least 50 feet from any dwelling, be constantly attended, and be extinguished by sunset. The Fire Marshal may still shut down an otherwise-lawful burn when conditions turn hazardous.
