Camarillo Municipal Code Chapter 10.60 establishes curfew hours for minors. The ordinance restricts minors from being in public places during late-night hours and provides defenses for legitimate activities such as employment, emergencies, and First Amendment activities.
CMC Chapter 10.60 defines curfew offenses and penalties for minors. Section 10.60.010 provides definitions including the age thresholds and curfew hour periods. Section 10.60.020 establishes the offenses - minors found in public places during curfew hours without a parent or guardian may be cited. Parents who knowingly allow minors to violate curfew may also be cited. Section 10.60.030 provides defenses for curfew violations including: the minor was accompanied by a parent or guardian; the minor was on an errand at the direction of a parent; the minor was traveling to or from employment; the minor was involved in an emergency; the minor was engaged in First Amendment-protected activity; or the minor was in a vehicle traveling through the city. Enforcement is handled by the Camarillo Police (Ventura County Sheriff). Camarillo's planned communities often have additional community rules about minor supervision in common areas, but these are separate from the criminal curfew ordinance.
Curfew violations are subject to penalties under CMC 10.60.040. First violations may result in warnings or diversion. Repeat violations may result in fines for both the minor and the parent or guardian. Contact Camarillo Police at (805) 388-5100.
