The City of Orange enforces a juvenile curfew under OMC Chapter 9.28 prohibiting minors from being in public places between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Parents who knowingly allow violations are also subject to penalties.
Under OMC Chapter 9.28, no minor shall be present, loiter, idle, wander, roam, play, or remain in or upon any public place or establishment during curfew hours of 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Public places include streets, highways, alleys, parks, common areas of schools, hospitals, apartment buildings, and transportation facilities. No parent, guardian, or responsible adult may knowingly permit or by insufficient control allow a minor to violate curfew. Exceptions include travel to or from school, religious, recreational, civic, or organized activities supervised by a responsible adult, as well as employment and First Amendment-protected activities.
Violating the curfew is a misdemeanor. Minors are dealt with under juvenile court law and procedure. Parents who allow violations may also face misdemeanor charges.
