Full Breakdown
City code section 11.44.070 splits the curfew by age: under-16s must be off sidewalks, streets, alleys and public places between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM, while 16- and 17-year-olds face the same restriction only from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM. Parents or guardians who knowingly allow a minor to violate curfew are also liable. Exceptions cover married minors, those accompanied by a parent or guardian, minors carrying written parental authorization, travel to/from school or religious events, minors with proof of employment, interstate travel, and minors near their own residence. Before citing anyone, an officer must first let the person explain whether an exemption applies.
Violations & Fines
Violation is a class B misdemeanor by default under § 1.12.050: up to a $1,000 fine and/or 6 months in jail per city code's general penalty provision.
