Sandy, UT Curfew Laws: Juvenile Curfew (2026)

Sandy City Code section 13-3-2 sets two curfew tiers. m. "Public places" is defined broadly to include privately owned spaces open to the public, such as store interiors, restaurants, and parking lots. Parents, guardians or other adults with care and custody who knowingly allow or permit a minor to violate the section are separately liable, and a business owner or operator who knowingly permits a minor to remain on the premises in violation is also liable, though the business-liability clause does not reach a minor lawfully employed there.

Six exceptions apply: a minor accompanied by a responsible adult; one traveling to or from lawful employment; one on an emergency errand directed by a parent or guardian; one in a vehicle on interstate through-travel; one traveling to or from a religious, municipal, social, entertainment, sporting, political, library or school function; and one within the immediate vicinity of home. On violation, the minor is subject to arrest and citation and is then returned to a parent or guardian's custody; a parent who knowingly refuses to appear and take custody within a reasonable time after a peace officer's order is itself unlawful.
