Commerce City, CO Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 7-1004, Closed areas; curfew, imposes two overlapping restrictions on Commerce City park property, defined in section 7-1000 to include all city parks, trails, open space, recreation facilities and the Buffalo Run Golf Course. Subsection (a) makes it unlawful to enter or trespass in any enclosed area of a park, such as a fenced swimming pool, tennis court, ball field, city trail, or the golf course, whenever that area is closed by locked gates, doors or barricades, or is posted with a sign restricting use.

Subsection (b) then sets a citywide overnight curfew: except for government employees on official business or anyone specifically authorized by the city, it is unlawful to be present within any park property, including its streets, parking areas or roadways, between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. A third layer applies specifically to the Buffalo Run Golf Course under subsection (c): a person may not enter or remain on the course when it is open unless they register with staff at the pro shop and follow the course's rules, and may not enter or remain at all when the course is closed.

Because Chapter 7 does not set its own dollar penalty for a curfew violation, the citywide general penalty in Section 1-5 governs: a fine of up to three hundred dollars, imprisonment of up to ninety days, or both, with each day a continuing violation occurs treated as a separate offense. Chapter 7 does specify heavier, dedicated fines elsewhere, such as the minimum $1,000 fine under section 7-1003(f) for illegal ATV or motorcycle use in a park, showing the city reserves specific penalties for the violations it considers most serious.
