Hamden, CT Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 95.11 of the Hamden Code of Ordinances governs conduct in every park and recreational facility operated by the Department of Parks and Recreation. Subsection (E) states that, unless otherwise expressly authorized, all park and recreation facilities of the town shall be open from sunrise to sunset, and subsection (F) makes it unlawful for any person to be permitted in any park or recreational facility of the town while it is closed. The closure sits alongside other park rules in the same section: subsection (C) bars pets except where the parks director designates pet areas, subsection (D) bars vehicles unless the director authorizes them, subsection (G) bars hunting in, on or above any town park or recreational land, and subsection (H) bars golfing outside a dedicated golf course facility.

Because § 95.11(A) makes it unlawful to violate any regulation of the director of parks and recreation, a person found in a park after sunset can be cited both for presence during closure under (F) and for any additional posted director regulation, such as seasonal gate hours. The Hamden Police Department enforces after-hours presence in town parks, and the director of parks and recreation formulates the specific opening and closing schedule under § 95.10, subject to Mayor and Parks and Recreation Commission approval. Anyone authorized for a permitted evening event under § 95.11(B), such as a permitted alcohol event held with Mayor and Police Chief approval, is exempt from the general closure for the duration and location of that specific permit.
