Hoboken, NJ Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Article II of Chapter 89 of the Hoboken City Code, adopted in 1975 and amended November 15, 2021 by Ordinance No. B-404, makes it unlawful for any person or group to loiter, idle, wander or play in, or remain in or upon, the City's public parks, playgrounds or other public grounds between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. official City time (§ 89-5). The curfew applies City-wide to every public park and playground, not to a single facility, and covers the full range of park uses named in the ordinance, from loitering and idling to actively playing.

The one written exception covers anyone who is simply traversing the park area to get to or from home, business or a place of employment as a normal, ordinary route of pedestrian travel; someone stopping to linger, socialize or recreate in the park after 10:00 p.m. is not covered by that pass-through exception. Violations of the park curfew are penalized under § 89-6, last amended in 1987 by Ordinance No. V-140. If the person cited is a juvenile, the fine or jail term named in § 89-6 is not imposed by the Hoboken Municipal Court; the ordinance instead directs the offender's case to the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court of the County of Hudson, a different venue from the municipal court that otherwise hears the City's curfew and civil disturbance offenses.
