Huntington, NY Drone Rules: Park Drone Restrictions (2026)

Section 189-10(C) makes it unlawful for any person, business or agency to take off, launch, land, or pilot an unmanned aircraft within the border of any real property owned, used or leased by the Town of Huntington or its Board of Trustees without a permit. Town parks fall squarely within that property category, so a drone hobbyist who wants to fly in a Huntington park needs the same permit as anyone flying on other Town land. Section 189-11 restates the requirement directly: no person, business entity or agency may take off, land or pilot a drone on Town property unless a permit for the activity has been issued by the Huntington Town Attorney's Office.

The § 189-12 application must be filed at least five business days before the activity, must identify the operator, the date, area, start and end points, and times of the flight, and must state whether the use is recreational or commercial. A permittee must carry the permit at all times during the flight and display it on demand to anyone authorized to enforce Chapter 189, and permits can be revoked for violating their terms, forfeiting any fees paid. Section 189-14 exempts active law enforcement use and flights separately authorized under federal, state, or Town department authority from this park/Town-property permit requirement.
