Under Montebello Municipal Code Section 17.10.130, a view-obscuring fence, wall or hedge in a required front yard may not exceed three feet (36 inches), while a fence, wall or hedge up to six feet is allowed behind the front setback line and along interior side and rear yards.
The City of Montebello regulates fence, wall and hedge heights under its own Zoning Code, Title 17, Section 17.10.130 (Development standards-Landscaping, fences, hedges), not Los Angeles County's code. Within a required front yard, a view-obscuring wall, fence or hedge is limited to thirty-six inches (three feet) measured from finished grade. Behind the rear line of the required front yard, a wall, fence or hedge may be a maximum of six feet high, which covers interior side yards and rear yards on a standard interior lot. As an exception, a wrought-iron or similar non-view-obscuring decorative fence up to six feet may be permitted within the required front yard subject to the approval of the city planner for traffic-safety reasons. On corner
A view-obscuring front-yard fence over three feet, any fence over six feet behind the front setback, or an obstruction over three feet in the corner vision-clearance area violates MMC 17.10.130 and can be ordered lowered or removed.
