Plantation, FL Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 27-296(o)(2) sets Plantation's residential fence and wall heights by location on the lot. In the front street setback area, which runs the full width of the lot on both interior and corner lots, a wall or fence tops out at four feet. On interior lots, the side setback areas and the rear setback area allow up to six feet. Corner lots get up to six feet along the property lines outside the front street setback, though the secondary street setback area is generally capped at four feet, with a six-foot exception only within the portion of the yard bounded by a line from the front corner of the house to the secondary street property line and around the rear of the lot.

Section 27-296(o)(1)f fixes how height is measured: from existing grade at the fence or wall's location, as 'existing grade' is defined in Section 27-11. There is one built-in exception to the standard heights: on property zoned RS-1EP in Plantation Acres where horses are kept, the code requires the fence or wall to reach five feet at the site of the fence, specifically to keep horses from jumping it. Every permissive height in this subsection is also subject to the vision clearance (sight triangle) requirements of Section 27-299(f), so a fence that meets the raw height limit can still be cited if it blocks sightlines at a driveway or intersection.

Chapter 5, Article IV's swimming pool safety barrier requirements can independently limit a fence to four feet where it sits in a setback area and would otherwise obstruct fire department access.
