Fiberglass sheeting, bamboo sheeting, chain link, black/green fabric, barbed wire, and razor ribbon are prohibited as fencing materials in commercial/industrial areas adjacent to residential.
Under SCMC Chapter 17.57, masonry walls are required on rear and side property lines in residential zones. The Santa Clarita Building Code (Title 18) addresses permitted fence materials: chain link or wire fences, wood fences, vinyl fences, and open wrought iron fences are all addressed. Block walls (masonry) are the standard for rear and side boundary walls. In fire hazard zones, fencing materials must comply with fire-resistant construction requirements per the LA County Fire Code. Parcels in Fire Hazard Zones as determined by the City's Fire Zone Map are subject to additional construction requirements for all buildings and structures. The Unified Development Code (Title 17) may impose additional material restrictions in specific zoning districts and special standards areas.
Non-conforming fence materials in required locations are zoning violations. Fire hazard zone violations may trigger both zoning and fire code enforcement.
